In the Glossner household, we are like kids when it comes to picking our Christmas tree. This year we've never had a tree so big (and guess what? If fell over!) But, that's another, very frustrating but funny, story. I love the way a Christmas tree smells and fills the whole house. It's my favorite.
I love the really full trees. I appreciate how healthy they are. And to think this gigantic tree once was planted and grew into something so beautiful. Something that makes me so very happy. We are much like the Christmas tree. We are planted by God and we grow up and flourish from Him.
"I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5 ESV
Jesus is the vine and we are the branches. If branches are cut off from the vine they will not bear fruit and eventually will die. Just like that, if we are cut off from God we will not flourish. He is our source for life. As you look at your Christmas tree this season (whether real or not) I want to encourage you to think about Jesus being the vine and us His branches.
Welcome to day 11 of Advent: He is the Vine.
If you have the She Matters Journal, the Dig Deep section is the perfect tool to help you study the names of Jesus. You can purchase yours here.
How is Jesus the one true Vine and how do you flourish as the branch? Would He be proud of the fruit you produce?
Dear Jesus, thank you for planting me so firmly in my faith. I want to produce fruit that glorifies you and builds the Kingdom of Heaven. May I continue to grow and flourish with the roots that I have planted in you, and to help those in my life do the same. In Your Holy name, Amen.
